Make or n8n for a seasonal tax shop?

Choose for a three-month rush

A seasonal T1 shop needs appointments, an intake checklist and a clear quotation process. This comparison focuses on that busy-season pattern. CPA firm onboarding belongs to the year-round practice guide.

Start with the booking tool’s existing reminders. Make is a candidate for a short booking-to-checklist handoff when those rules leave a gap. n8n may suit a more complex intake review, provided the practice can support the implementation and data handling.

Annual billing and annual credits are different

Make’s subscription guidance says Core credits remain monthly allocated on annual billing. Pro and Teams annual subscriptions provide a yearly pool. Monthly plans allocate monthly credits. A seasonal practice should compare the busiest month, the credit-expiry date and the full subscription commitment.

The hub lists verified starting prices. It does not provide a higher-tier Make quote. Do not compare three months of one plan with an annual commitment for the other without showing both totals.

Keep the booking queue separate from tax slips

A reminder needs a booking reference, appointment time and approved checklist type. Put a restricted upload link in the message. Keep slips, SINs and banking details out of the reminder payload and public links.

For quote preparation, a preparer can review a count of supplied document types and unresolved questions. Any suggested fee category remains a draft. The preparer confirms scope and price rather than letting an extraction result create a client commitment.

Review PIPEDA processing accountability before a processor receives tax documents. Confirm the authoritative archive and data path separately. This is not legal or tax advice.

Model one season before buying

Example, assumptions shown: 900 messages with three ordinary billable actions each gives 2,700 Make credits across the season. Ninety daily batched n8n starts gives 90 executions before retries. These count different workflow designs; they are not a controlled cost benchmark. Place the messages into the actual months and test the same delivery and review requirements on both platforms.

Acceptance test

Use a cancelled booking, a rescheduled appointment and a client who already supplied the requested item. Expect the right checklist version and no obsolete reminder. Test a failed calendar read and make the preparer’s exception queue visible.

Use the tax-preparer workflow collection for build references and the document-chase guide for review controls. Return to the finance comparison.

Frequently asked questions

Can annual Make credits cover a seasonal spike?

The official guidance distinguishes Core’s monthly allocation from Pro/Teams annual pools. Confirm the purchased tier, term and expiry before planning the busy season.

Can intake automation set my tax-preparation fee?

It can prepare a draft scope summary. The preparer decides the quote and communicates the engagement terms.

Is a three-month subscription automatically cheaper?

No. Compare current monthly prices, annual commitments, usage and setup work for the same process. Non-annual prices were not verified in this review.
