Flowgrammer

n8n or Make for an Ontario personal injury firm?

Compare Make and n8n for PI records tracking and medical chronology drafts. Review health privacy and keep limitation dates with the lawyer.

Not legal advice. Rules are summarised for planning. A licensee confirms every date and scope decision.

Separate request status from medical evidence

Make is a candidate for a reviewed records-request status queue using minimal matter metadata. A chronology built from medical records needs a separate design and privacy review. Flowgrammer’s default is a controlled Canadian environment for that document-processing path, with approved local processing or verified Canadian endpoints.

Self-hosted n8n can coordinate that environment. An external OCR or model API can still send records abroad, so a Canadian workflow server alone does not establish a Canadian-only process. We have not verified Mistral OCR’s processing location for this use.

Confirm the health-information authority

Not legal advice. Ontario’s IPC guidance explains consent and other permitted grounds for disclosure, and the need to limit disclosure to the necessary information. A law firm’s precise obligations depend on its role and the facts; receiving health records does not automatically make every firm a health information custodian.

Have the lawyer confirm authority to obtain, use and disclose the records, including the proposed processors. Review privilege and confidentiality as well as PHIPA obligations that apply. Canada-only hosting is Flowgrammer’s proposed design default for this task, not a claim that PHIPA universally bans foreign processing.

A limitation flag belongs in a lawyer’s queue

Not legal advice. The Ontario Limitations Act addresses discovery and exceptions. A date supplied at intake is insufficient to establish the final limitation date. Record the incident date as a stated fact, any discovery information and unresolved questions. Prompt a lawyer to confirm the legal date and diary entry. Do not create a final limitation date by adding a fixed interval to the accident date.

The accident-benefit notice/application deadlines and detailed paralegal scope rules were not verified for this comparison and are omitted. A lawyer checks the current applicable rules outside the workflow.

Choose a path for each task

Task, assessment dated 17 October 2026 Make candidate n8n candidate
Records-request status Minimal approved metadata and restricted links Same minimisation; use an existing approved runtime if appropriate
Medical chronology Outside this proposed cloud document-processing design Controlled Canadian runtime plus separately verified OCR/model/storage paths
Limitation review Assign a lawyer review task Same professional decision boundary

Keep a chronology traceable

Keep the original unchanged. Each proposed event needs a source file, page and quoted clinical date. Distinguish a recorded visit date from the date a letter was written. The clerk checks extraction; the lawyer decides legal relevance. A model must not infer causation or fill a gap in the treatment history.

Acceptance test

Use synthetic records with an unreadable date, duplicate pages and conflicting patient identifiers. Expect source-linked exceptions and a held chronology. Inspect outbound requests, logs and backups before an authorised real-document test. None was performed for this research.

Use the medical chronology design, PI request tracker and PI workflow references. Return to the legal comparison.

Frequently asked questions

Can automation calculate the final limitation date?

This design records source facts and creates a lawyer-review task. A lawyer confirms discovery, exceptions and the final legal date before a confirmed diary entry.

Does self-hosted n8n keep every medical record in Canada?

Only if the complete configured path does so. OCR, models, connected apps, logs and backups can have different locations and require separate verification.

Does PHIPA require every law firm to use a Canadian server?

This page makes no such blanket claim. A lawyer assesses the firm’s role, authority and applicable obligations. Flowgrammer proposes a controlled Canadian document-processing path as a design default.
